I found this speaker refreshing. If you’re thinking the economy is on the verge of collapse, global warming is going to destroy the planet, oil has peaked, a civil war is inevitable, people are getting meaner, the sky is falling and we can’t escape…this high level p.o.v. on the state of our global society today and tomorrow will ease your anxiety.

Live Science
This website is the first I’ve seen that really brings a light browsing experience to scientific content. Their recommendation tool helps you find other topics you’d be interested in reading, and the articles seem current, so I’d definitely go back to check out what new content they’ll have tomorrow.

When do I get the Moon Shoes?

I love TED talks. I’m always giddy for their entertaining and smart speakers. This is the first time I’ve re-posted a talk. It’s 20 min, but I want you to watch it to the end, it’s worth it.

Also check out more talks at www.ted.com

I thought this process of how pencils are made was surprisingly entertaining. There’s a whole series of “how _____ are made”. Everything from footballs to soap. You can find the links to those in the recommended viewing over lay that displays after the video. Check it out.

Here’s a pretty good diagram to support the idea that there is room find common ground between the Tea Party and the OWS.

The OWS and the Tea Party are both spontaneous civil movements who share a zealous dissatisfaction with the state of the domestic economy and a frustration with the mute voice of the common people. What I appreciate about both of these groups, is their power to rally attention and strong patriotic sentiments across the country from outside the established factions of government lobbying. If these two seemingly polarized bodies could acknowledge, at least at a high level, some common ground, it would demonstrate a hopeful sketch for us(a). If A people fractured into groupings by sensationalism and bumper sticker banter can come together and acknowledge that we aren’t so different from one another then maybe we could portray a conversation that heroizes compromise.

Topical Suggestions:

1) Cutting the nations $14.7 trillion debt

2) A revamp on corporate and personal tax law

3) Finding a balance between clean energy and natural gas investments

4) Fighting government& corporate corruption

etc.

Life: From Mouth to Mouth
This project is a very literal interpretation of a passage in the Old Testament: In Ezekiel 3, God instructs Ezekiel to eat a scroll of lamentations so he can then speak His words to the people of Israel. By encapsulating in digestible pills the entire text of Leviticus, one of the five books of the Torah, the designers suggest a comparison between medicinal and religious prescription, as well as the idea of many people ingesting the same knowledge and then interpreting it differently, even questioning it.www.moma.org

About:

Members of Free Art and Technology (FAT), OpenFrameworks, the Graffiti Research Lab, and The Ebeling Group communities have teamed-up with a legendary LA graffiti writer, publisher and activist, named TEMPTONE. Tempt1 was diagnosed with ALS in 2003, a disease which has left him almost completely physically paralyzed… except for his eyes. This international team is working together to create a low-cost, open source eye-tracking system that will allow ALS patients to draw using just their eyes. The long-term goal is to create a professional/social network of software developers, hardware hackers, urban projection artists and ALS patients from around the world who are using local materials and open source research to creatively connect and make eye art.
